“It’s the music of the earth, the music of the sun and the stars, the music of your-Self, vibrating. Yes, you are music, too.”
Sun Ra

Immerse yourself in the transformative power of sound practices, where your voice becomes a vessel to uplift the mind, and nourish every cell with resonant vibrations.

In this immersion, you will delve into the essence of traditional mantra yoga techniques, embracing the devotional practice of chanting intertwined with ancient philosophy.

It's not just a course; it's a personal mentorship tailored to equip you with practical, transferable skills. We weave through the tapestry of traditional yogic wisdom, empowering you to deepen your knowledge through both theoretical understanding and immersive practice.

Friday

Saṃskṛta
Revitalize your Sanskrit

This fun module will inspire you to keep the Sanskrit language alive for yourself and your students.

Revise your connection to the ancient language of yoga. We will practice the Sanskrit alphabet and its unique sounds made by the five places of articulation, aspiration, and long and short sounds.

Learn how to read transliterated Sanskrit so you can make sense of the diacritics used to support our ability to read this sacred language.

Increase your confidence in speaking the names of postures, keywords, and mantras. A work in progress to ensure specificity in your pronunciation so that you are saying what you intend to say and are experiencing the energetic qualities of mantra practice.

Saturday

Nāda Yoga

“Sound is an organization of love temporarily crystallized.”
Solomon Fesshaye

In this module, you will experience toning and projection techniques to build confidence while teaching and chanting. Nāda yoga is the union through sound.

We will practice SARGAM, the Indian classical music scale, and rāga based kirtan rooted in the classical Indian music
system. We will explore the effects and application of sound and mantras in yoga.

We will experiment using the harmonium, learning and leading simple chants and toning practices. The focus is on soothing the nervous system and increasing vitality, joy, and self-expression.

Sunday

Ancient texts

Enjoy the stories and symbolism associated with yogic texts concerning mantra practice. We will chant and unpack important sūtras that support our underlying idea of what yoga is and what obstructs this inner state.
Rachel brings this text alive, making it applicable and inspiring your personal practice and teaching.

Our sessions will be a combination of inquiry and experiential practice through recitation of the yoga sūtras,
meditation through mantra, reflection, discussion, and journaling.

Monday

Teaching with mantra yoga

“To become a teacher, one must become a teacher”  Gabrielle Roth

This module will increase your curiosity and confidence so that you will be inspired to integrate the knowledge of the yoga of sound into your personal practice and then into your offerings. In this module, you will experience toning and projection techniques to build confidence in your voice and communication skills as an embodied leader. You’ll gain a more profound sense of clarity on the benefits of mantra yoga. We will explore the effects and application of sound and mantra in yoga. You will experience and learn how mantra yoga is an intrinsic part of āsana, prānāyāma, and dhārana (meditation) as well-thought-out layers into your yoga classes, retreats, and workshops.
